Precious Life Shelter is primarily operated by volunteers with big hearts who give their time, talent and treasure.
If you have a desire to serve others and change lives in our community you might consider becoming a volunteer at Precious Life Shelter.
We would love to have you join our family. Volunteer shifts are available in the following:

1.
|
Thrift Shop
|
|
|
No experience is necessary. The store is run mainly on volunteers and is open six days a week.
Volunteers are needed all day or in for 3 to 4 hour shifts in a variety of ways:
Cashier, Store Worker, Sorter, Pricer and Assist at Super Saturday Blowout Sale (once a month and 2nd Satuday)

2.

Office/Front Desk
|
|
|
Give clerical support in the office: answer phones: provide information to callers; phone intake for potential residents;
place calls as directed and take messages; file, write "thank you" notes, etc.
|
|
3.
|
Childcare
|
|
|
Loving arms to hold and rock a baby; play with and read to a baby; feed a baby; change diapers;
help take kids outside for outdoor time; help with paper work, such as copying, faxing, etc.
|
|
4.
|
Mentor
|
|
|
A highly committed woman to meet with a resident, one on one, to assist and evaluate educational needs,
to provide empathic support and encourage problem solving and to help work toward her short and long term goals and reach milestones.
|
|
5.
|
Health/Education
|
|
|
Classes you teach to Residents to cover topics of : baby care, breast feeding, Lamaze, labor and delivery, parenting, dental-care,
sexually transmitted diseases, nutrition, adoption, self-esteem, counseling, finances, budgeting, job skills, anger management, etc.
Tutors are needed to help residents who are working on their GED; Birth Coach - to attend Lamaze classes with resident and participate
in the birth of her baby; MOMS Program - a support group that provides residents an opportunity
to share with each other their concerns and experiences of parenting.
This helps them to develop self esteem, relationship skills and better define their role as mother, parent and individual.

Newsletter
|
|
|
Assist in mailing the shelter's quarterly Newsletter (inserting donation envelop, seal and label)
|
|
7.
|
Fund Development/Fund Raising
|
|
|
Organize and carry-out fund-raising events for the shelter.
(Dinner Dance, Golf Tournament Committee (once a year), help with publicity, decorations, ticket sales, auction and other)
|
|
8.
|
Handy Helper
|
|
|
Maintenance help (Electrician, Plumber, Carpenter, Yard work, Light Housecleaning)
|
|
9.
|
Baby Clothes Sorter Assistant
|
|
|
To help sort and organize baby clothes and baby items; put together layette bags for new resident and New Moms Box for birth of baby.
|
|
10.
|
Publicity/Public Relations
|
|
|
Provide newspaper publicity for the shelter; Provide and arrange for speakers to Churches,
service organizations, and /or schools to promote the shelter's needs and goals.
|
|
11.
|
Special Needs
|
|
|
Spring cleaning for shelter units; sorting donated items; helping with Christmas "Adopt-a-Family";
providing a forum for non-perishable food drive; be a "Sunday Supper" family,
(we provide the main course, you provide the relationship) for our Emergency residents;
resident special needs for Valentines, Editor, 4th of July, birthdays, maybe a B-B-Q; scrape booking party for new moms.
